Etherlite 32 - Port Buffer

One of our customers wants use Etherlite 32 - 32 Ports

Customer will be sending the data to EL32 serial connectors in form of packets from their SCADA units ( say SLAVE unit) , which is based on a DNC protocol.

Where using TCP/IP stack ( which includes of Transport and DLL layers) where they will be sending the 2K data to Digi Etherlite 32 –EL32 ( say Master) in the data size of approximately 2092 bytes, only after EL32 acknowledge the receipt of this data to Slave, the next Packet of 2K data will be sent to Etherlite 32.

Etherlite 32 supports only 1K/ Port as buffer
Means totally there are 32 ports, supporting 1KB buffer per port, means 32 KB Buffer is available

Clarification needed is

CLARIFICATION NEEDED IS THE “ BUFFER/ PORT should be of 2KB.

ALSO NEED TO REMEMBER THAT CUSTOMER WILL NOT BE USING ALL THE 32 PORTS OF EL32. IN THIS CONTEXT WHETHER THE BUFFER/PORT IS LIMITED TO 1K/PORT ONLY (OR) THE TOTAL BUFFER WILL BE SHARRED AMONG THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SERIAL PORT USERS.

This is regarding Digi Etherlite 32( EL32) clarification-

Data will be sent from serial sevices to the SERIAL PORTS of EL32 serial connectors in form of packets from theSCADA units ( say SLAVE unit) , which is based on a DNC protocol.

Using TCP/IP stack ( which includes of Transport and DLL layers) where they will be sending the 2K data to Digi Etherlite 32 –EL32 ( say Master) in the data size of approximately 2092 bytes, only after EL32 acknowledge the receipt of this data to Slave, the next Packet of 2K data will be sent to Etherlite 32.

Also please note that PROTOCOL is designed such that each packet of data sent using this protocol will be of approx. 2KB. ( say 2096 bytes), hence sending lesser data than 2KB is not possible to serial connectors of EL32.

I was told that EL32 each Serial port supports 1KB Buffer/port, hence such 32 ports can be used.

Means totally there are 32 ports, supporting 1KB buffer per port, means 32 KB Buffer is available.

In this context I would like to have the following clarification :

Assuming all the 32 ports of Etherlite32 will not be used, say if the number of ports used is 20 ports, then the above said BUFFER ( 32K ) will be shared among 20 ports. Hence 32KB/20 will be buffer size is available, whether this is possible with Digi Etherlite 32.

I.E., THE TOTAL BUFFER OF 32KB is being shared by the number of ports in use.

Is 1KB buffer per port is fixed, it is not depended on the number of ports are being used.

WE NEED THIS CLARIFCATION ON TOP PRIORITY, PLEASE CLARIFY.

CONCLUSION:

ONE OF OUR CUSTOMERS REQUIREMENT IS TO HAVE 2KB BUFFER/PORT- using EL32. HENCE THE ONLY CLARIFICATION NEEDED IS ABOUT THE BUFFER CAPACITY/PORT WITH REFERENCE TO EL32. OUR CUSTOMERS REQUIREMENT IS 2KB/PORT.
PLEASE CLARIFY.

ALSO WE NEED TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT OUR CUSTOMER WILL NOT BE USING ALL THE 32 PORTS OF EL32. IN THIS CONTEXT WHETHER THE BUFFER/PORT IS LIMITED TO 1K/PORT ONLY (OR) THE TOTAL BUFFER WILL BE SHARRED AMONG THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SERIAL PORT USERS.
