SanDisk Cruzer USB thumb drive not working in AnywhereUSB/5 hub

I don’t know if this is a compatibility or power issue. If we plug in a 8Gb SanDisk Cruzer thumb drive, it appears in Windows as a device that cannot be started, but if we plug in a 32 GB SanDisk Backup device, it is seen properly and becomes a device that can be used in Windows.

Thanks,

Leo

Hello Leo,

USB storage devices aren’t supported with the AnywhereUSB and should be treated “as is”, specifically with regards to known issues/symptoms.

What exactly do you mean by “cannot be started”?

Hi Jeremy, are you saying that USB storage devices won’t work with the AnywhereUSB hub? Is it meant for security tokens and such?

What is strange is that a SanDisk 32GB Backup USB thumbdrive will work fiine, but a 8GB SanDisk Cruzer will not.

The SanDisk Cruzer’s light does not turn on and it is seen as a device in Windows’ device manager as a device with an improper device driver and in the properties for the device it says it cannot be started.

Thanks,

Leo

They work in a limited fashion. They should get detected by the OS and even installed, however they usually exhibit issues afterwards. For example, several customers have reported that Windows “hangs” after attaching them to an AWUSB.

The issue you’re running into is something that comes up periodically, but related to other various kinds of USB devices. I don’t recall ever seeing a “device cannot be started” error on a USB flash drive.

Security tokens are supported and commonly used. Here’s a good KB article that discusses USB device compatibility:

Maybe your issue has to do with the file system on the Cruzer? What file systems are they both using?

Mass storage devices, i.e. flash drives and hard drives. are incompatible with AUSB, thus it is not recommended to use them
