TS16 and DCE/DTE socket configuration?

We have one TS16 with all RJ50 receptacles configured as TCP Sockets clients. We see bits coming out of it on RJ50 pins 5 and 7

It connects to another TS16 with all RJ50 receptacles configured as TCP Sockets servers. We see bits coming out of it on RJ50 pins 6 and 7.

Is this normal behavior?

Does the RJ50 receptacle on a given port change back and forth between being DTE or a DCE depending on whether the port is configured as a client or a server?

Or is there another reason for the data direction change?

Thanks!

Here’s the pinout of the RJ50 socket:

1 - RI (Ring Indicator)
2 - DSR
3 - RTS
4 - GND (shell/chassis ground)
5 - TxD
6 - RxD
7 - SG (Signal Ground)
8 - CTS
9 - DTR
10 - DCD

So if the pins mentioned in your post are based on the 10-wire RJ50 socket, I’d say you shouldn’t be seeing anything over Signal Ground, so no, that wouldn’t be normal behavior.

As far as type, all Portserver TS serial ports are DTE, there is no configuration option to change it.
