Hello! Planning to buy XBee Pro PCB, Lilypad XBee, XBee Shield, and XBee Explorer Dongle.
“What I want to know is do you really need two XBee Explorer Dongles?”
As far as I know, Explorer Dongles are used to connect the XBee module to your pc or laptop, then configure the XBee using their XCTU software.
I’m just confused as the guides found on the net say that you need two explorer dongles, but why bother if you will use it just for programming the XBee module?
The only item you have listed that is manufactured or supported by Digi is the actual XBee module. All of the other components are not ours.
Depending on which XBee module you are working with and which explorer dongle you are going with will depend on if it will provide you with all of the lines needed for programming. Really if you are only using it for programming, then it is better to simply purchase a Dev elopement kit from Digi. This way you know the board that comes with the XBee will allow you to change settings, firmware versions Etc and power it.
