Solutions for a low latency and low power end device?

I’ve been tasked with finding a wireless protocol and hardware that would be best suited for a security system. One of the main design obstacles is finding an end device that has substantial battery life but can be brought out of a sleep mode quickly. To my understanding, most low powered devices conserve power by limiting the time they’re listening and transmitting data. Our end device won’t be monitoring anything and doesn’t need large amounts of data to operate (just receiving on off commands quickly essentially).

Are there ways to wake a low powered device quickly? One example that’s close to what I’m looking for is Z-Wave FliRs, but I was hoping there was a Zigbee or XBee equivalent.


I am not familiar with Z-Wave product but you can use Pin sleep on many of the XBee products.
