Xbee modules-Whats the Difference in Variants?

Hi,I want to purchase a xbee module. I m a newbie to xbee or zigbee! But When I ran through DIGI’s website there are so variants of xbee with almost same specifications.Lik XBee-PRO® 802.15.4 OEM RF Modules,XBee® & XBee-PRO® ZB,XBee™ ZNet 2.5 OEM RF Modules.Whats the difference between them. What to buy?

Please help me.
Thanks.

The difference is between the preloaded firmware in it. But Better go for XBee series 2. And try writing ZigBee(ZB) Firmware.

If you really want to do some development then try with Python programming by downloading it into Connect Port X4.

And for that you can also buy iDigi starter Kit. You will find interesting…

The big difference between series 1 (802.15.4) and series 2 (Zigbee) is that with Zigbee you get routers, so your network can be physically bigger. With 802.15.4 XBees that transmit to each other need to be directly in range.

If you don’t need long range communication, you may prefer the 802.15.4 solution because it’s (IMHO) a lot simpler to deal with.

Just another viewpoint.
