BL4S200 RS232 Serial Communication with Computer

Hey,

I’m pretty new to the whole serial communications process and I’ve run into a problem.

My overall goal is to get A/D signal from load cells to send data via the RS232 port to my computer. I was wondering how exactly I should connect the RS232 to the computer itself.

Also, I was wondering if I needed a MAX232, and if so, if anyone has a suggestion for a useful prepackaged one that could just connect from the board to the computer.

Thanks.

Connecting an RS232 interface to the BL4S200 does not require the use of a MAX232 as the BL4s200 already has an RS232 driver chip on board. You wneed to wire up an RS232 cable to J11 the pinout of which is found in section 3.1 of the user guide for the BL4S200.

You will need the correct connector to mate with J11 and either wire that directly to the female DB9 to connect to the PC or to a male or female DB9 which you can then use with an off the shelf DB9 to DB9 cable.

Regards,
Peter
