Connect ME 5V tolerant?

Does anyone know if the Digi Connect ME tx/rx pins are 5V tolerant, or 3.3V only? I’ve looked through the hardware reference and the datasheets, but I can’t seem to find any mention. Called customer support last week, but they’re taking their sweet time in getting back to me.

They are not 5v tolerant, they are 3.3v only.

I have a note to myself which says: “The newer ME modules, with part number 50000878-xx are 5V tolerant on inputs. (Source - forum post by Cameron)”

But like you, I can’t find it in the data sheet (and can’t find Cameron’s forum post, either). In fact, the figures I found suggested Vcc+0.3V.

Think my designs do apply signals from 5V powered chips to some inputs, and nothing’s failed yet!

thanks!

I liked Cameron’s answer better. :frowning:

Please note, though, that the Digi Connect ME 9210 does provide 5V-tolerant inputs.

OK, but does the ME 9210 have the plug-n-play firmware? I’m not sure I’ll have time to get up to speed on custom firmware development for the first job or two.

Digi is in the process of releasing the Digi plug-and-play firmware on the Digi Connect ME 9210 platform. Initial availability for modules is currently scheduled for April 2009.

newell - talk to your Digi Sales Rep, I’m sure they can arrange to get you a module that has plug and play firmware running on it as soon as they’re available (or sooner!)

We buy in such low volumes (and this is our first ME design) that we don’t really have a relationship with a rep. Most of our purchases go through B&B Electronics or Mouser.

I’m not dead in the water on this quick-turn proto run by any means, as we designed the PCB footprint to allow brand L as well as brand D modules.

You don’t really need a relationship with a rep, just ask them through the Digi website: http://www.digi.com/contactus/email.jsp
