Help me please

Hi!
I am new with xbee. I have two xbee pro xsc and wand to send ordinary serial data from a ultrasonic range tester to a pc.
the range tester sends serial data as 9600,8,n,1.
I set up both xbee for 8,n,1 and the serial bout rate to 9600.
The data comming trough is incorrect.

Original Data is “R078” etc.
Received Data is something like “+.g.Y+.g.Y.+”

any idea?

just to bring it down to what i want: I have a serial signal (9600/8n1) on one modem, and i want to send it to a other, so i can read it with the PC.
no networking needet - just a plain nullmodem cable through the air…
