Has anyone sucessfully implimented this combination?
If so, what software platform? (Linux or NET+OS)
What 232 to 485 IC are you using?
Is it 2 wire or 4 wire?
I have found a few threads regarding this, but no clear definitive answer.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Im going to implement MODBUS protocol over RS485 in ME9210. I dont have the board done yet. But I dont see any problem. You can use any IC for this (ADM485, SN75176 …) just connect RE and DE together and connect it to one pin. This pin will switches between receiving and transmitting and that all.
