what are the recommended configurations for controlling serial link on Connectport TS 16 ?

I have a Digi connectport TS 16 appliance, when connecting to the serial port with default settings (speed: 9600, data bits:8, stop bits:1, Parity: None, Flow control: XON/XOFF) connection is coming up but the display is showing garbled characters.

Appreciate if someone can help me in solving the problem.

Garbled characters typically point to a problem with a mis-match in the baud rate.

Have you confirmed the attached device is running with the same serial settings? You will want to ensure the attached device is also set to run 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity and software flow control.
