will there ever be ADC input support for DM?

I’m new to the XBee and these forums…

In the data sheet, analog input capability is “coming in future firmware releases”. But given that the newest firmware is from August 2008, I am wondering if DigiMesh is being downplayed/orphaned in favour of ZigBee mesh… Does anyone know the scoop on this?

thanks,

Dave B.

Hi Dave, thanks for using our forum, and good question. Both ZigBee mesh and DigiMesh are getting a lot of attention, and both protocols have the full corporate support of Digi International behind them.

So why are we taking so long to offer the ADC input feature that was “coming soon” last August? The true story here is that the ADC functionality was complete by end of 2008. But before we could release the next revision, we wanted to fix something that a key customer found in their testing. We got that fixed and then something else came along from another key customer, and so on. So we have actually had many interim releases and the final and fully approved version (which everyone likes) should be released within 30 days.

Please send your contact info to rf-experts@digi.com to begin testing with the beta version of this now, or to be contacted when the official release happens.

A quick note regarding ZigBee Mesh vs. DigiMesh: ZigBee is particularly useful for interoperability with other ZigBee devices, including private and public profiles; DigiMesh is useful for sleeping routers, other frequencies than 2.4 GHz (like 900 MHz), and custom network architectures that customers request. There are other similarities/differences as well, but you can email us if you’d like to know more.

At Digi we try to be somewhat technology agnostic in our approach to offering RF modules. The fact is depending on your application ZigBee, DigiMesh, or another protocol may be the best technology for your needs. We try to offer all the best connectivity options we can to our customers. Please let us know if you have any comments/questions/suggestions.
