Xbee throughput 16 sensors

Dear Digi Gurus,

I am making some prospection on the wireless sensor networks and came down to me the Xbee modules.

My question is that if it is possible to create a network with 16 sensors (each sensor with a Xbee module), each comunicating 3 bytes at each 1ms.
The network could use one receiber and 16 transmitters.
If it is possible, what Xbee module is more adequade for this purpose, ZigBee or 802.15.4?
The modules (sensors) would be in a range of about 1m from each other and 2 to 10 meters from the receiber.
Is it possible this kind of development?.

You need to calculate out the baud rate but as long as you are below 80kbps (bits per second), then the 802.15.4 product would be best suited for this.
