Xbee3 usb adapter alternative?

Is there any alternative to a the xbee3 usb adapter?
I know nothing about xbee, zigbee etc all i know is i have an item that has an xbee s1 chip thingy inside of it, and it connects to a program on my pc via the use of the xbee3 usb adapter. Replacement for this adapter however is very expensive. Hoping there is an alternative usb stick that might work?

``I don’t know of a USB stick. But there are several different XBee USB adapter boards on the market. Digi offers both an XBIB-U or an XBIB-CU-TH board.

And this would work the same as the xbee3 usb adapter stick?

The boards I mention would allow you to connect the old XBee S1 module to a new interface board and your PC.

The XBee 3 USB Stick would replace both the old XBee S1 hardware as well as the interface board.

So would it allow the computer program to “talk” to my item or do i have to know how to program it?

Its a realityworks realcare baby simulator that has the xbee s1 inside it. And it needs to talk to the realityworks computer software that i have on my computer.

Do you already have an S1 module that is not inside of the Realityworks product? If so, then the interface board would allow you to mount the 2nd S1 module to it and use xctu to make any changes needed to the S1. Otherwise the XBee 3 XStick wold be more in line of what you need.

No just the s1 that is inside the realityworks product.
Still it sounds like buying an addotionsl s1 module and say an XBee Explorer USB Mini Adapter Board would still be cheaper than buying an xbee3 usb adapter

Actually no not in this case. First the S1 went EOL several years back. What I would suggest is obtaining XU3-A11. It would give you both the module as well as the interface board all in one. You can then load on the 802.15.4 firmware that is needed to talk to the S1 module in your Realityworks device via XCTU.

And the XU3-A11 is the “xbee3 usb adapter” which due to its expense i was trying to find an alternative option. However i do appreciate all the time you gave me in answering.

Then I would go the following rout…
XBee 3 Pro Module - PCB Antenna - Module
SparkFun XBee Explorer Dongle - Adapter board
