AnywhereUSB Technical Clarifications

Hello,

Could someone please confirm that my understanding (based on documentation + comments in this forum) of this hardware device is correct:

  1. An AnywhereUSB device can ONLY be connected to one host PC at a time and will share all USB devices attached to that device to the connected host PC.

  2. An AnywhereUSB device CAN NOT support a multiple PC hosts connecting through the device to access a single dedicated USB device; i.e. 1x PC connecting to 1x USB device via AnywhereUSB that hosts multiple USB devices.

I am trying to find out how best provide multiple USB licence keys to multiple PC’s on a 1-to-1 basis using the AnywhereUSB device to consolidate the location of the USB keys into a single physical, locked, secured location.

Hello,

Your understanding is correct.

The easiest way to think of the AnywhereUSB is that it functions (and is designed to function) like a “standard” USB-attached hub, with the one exception being that the AnywhereUSB is network-attached, so it can be much further away from the PC.

“Standard” USB-attached hubs do not provide or imply any kind of “port sharing” functionality, so we don’t either.

Note that, because we’ve had numerous requests for this kind of port sharing functionality, we’re planning on releasing another AnywhereUSB some time in 2009 that will have this feature.
