Suppose I have two templates in DRM, each with different sets of custom files. If I apply the first template to an IX30 and then apply the second template, will the IX30 have the files from both templates or only the files from last applied template? The documentation does not explicitly state whether applying a second template with different custom files will merge the files from both templates or overwrite the previous set.
Hello @Tim_Myth, where your question is concerned, I think the first thing to mention is that Templates are per Device Type per Devices Group, so you could only ever have one “IX30” Template running within the same Group. In order to run the type of scenario you specified then, you might have a Group A and Group B, each with its own version of an IX30 Template, in this case with two different File System payloads.
The best way for you to test this would be to setup the scenario above with two IX30 Groups, each having an IX30 Template with a different File set. My expectations would be that when the IX30 is put in Group A, the IX30 would be remediated with the Fileset specified in Group A. When the IX30 is then moved to Group B, it should be remediated with the Fileset from Group B. In other words, the IX30 should always end up with the Fileset loaded, as specified in the Template.
If you wanted to do a scenario where maybe you want the Template to remediate the IX30 with a specified Fileset, but then you want to add files post-remediation, you could do that with a Post-scan Automation, where X additional files are loaded, then the IX30 is moved to a different Group altogether (as an additional step within the Automation) where maybe the File System is ignored/not enabled.
Hopefully the above gives you some additional ideas on ways you could handle things, but my best advice is to test the way you want this to work on a Bench/non-Production IX30, so that all behavior and outcomes are understood before the first Production IX30 in your inventory is ever scanned. No surprises that way!
Correct. I read the manual and I am aware of how/when templates get applied. Perhaps I should have said:
Suppose I have a template named “Don’t Dump Product Out” (please, I’m not asking questions about template naming…I don’t know if that’s a valid template name or not and I really don’t care because I’m not concerned about template names at this point). The template manages a group of IX30’s that control bins of product. I place an IX30 in that group. It gets the custom files that tell it not to dump bins of product. Tomorrow, I repurpose one of those IX30’s into a different group that is supposed to dump bins of product. That group is managed by the “Do Dump Product” template with the custom files telling it to dump product. Which files will be present once it is compliant with the “Do Dump Product” template?
From the sounds of it though, this is something I’m going to have to test myself.

The “second” Template would not delete any files from the device, the “second” Template would only be interested in ensuring that any files it should store on the device are stored, and ignore the presence of any other files. Does this answer your question?
