can DigiOne IAP ignore a non-plc DH-485 drop ?

I want to convert a SLC5/03 DF1 output to enet using a Digi IAP

…but the DH485 line I want to connect to comes
out of the SLC and on into a 1747-AIC link-coupler.
there is an AB PV600 HMI station drop off that link-coupler.
the line then goes on to a KTX card in a PC.

I want to replace that KTX card with a DigiOne IAP module.
seems really straight forward until you think about that
PV600 station drop.

does the PV600 need to go bye-bye in order for this to work ?
in order for this to work easily ?
(that’s ok -most of the functionality in that PV600 is replicated elsewhere).

VERY KEY –> there will be no Lynx in that PC once the KTX card comes out,
just a VB app with a relatively simple (I’m no PCCC whiz) DF1 driver.
Need to pick an easy Digi IAP deployment path because I’m prone to moron.

anyone out there been down this road ?

I have never worked with DH485 (& rarely DH+).

Is the AIC a SLC rack card? So you have this?
[SLC+AIC] > DH485 > [PV600+KTX+PC]

The SLC5/03 has both a DH485 and DF1 serial, were you planning to just link the DOIAP to the DB9 serial port?

If I am seeing this correctly, then the fate of the AIC, PV600 and KTX could be unrelated to your DOIAP (unless the AIC is suppressing the SLC5/03’s normal comm ports).

If your VB app can encap DF1 into TCP/IP, then even a Digi One SP or Digi One IA could be used in “TCP Sockets” mode, meaning just talk DF1-FD in TCP port 2101.

However, the DOIAP gives the advantage that you CAN still use RSLinx to talk Ethernet/IP or CSP to the DOIAP and see the PLC. The DOIAP also would be multi-master, whereas the DOSP/DOIA “TCp Sockets” design would be single-master only.
