Connecting XStick ZB to XBee RS-485 Adapter

Hello everyone,

I’m new here and I was hoping to get some guidance on connecting a XStick ZB to a XBee RS-485 Adapter. I apologize for the length of this post but I figured I’d provide as much detail as possible.

The set-up we would like is the following.
We would like to connect a strain gauge module (RS-485 modbus) wirelessly to a computer. To do this we have connected the XBee RS-485 adapter to the XStick ZB.

It appears that the XStick is communicating with the XBee RS-485 adapter alright. The LEDs are blinking indicating there is network association. When setting cluster ID to 12, the range test in X-CTU works fine.

However we have been unable to communicate with the strain gauge module through the XBee adapters.

We have confirmed that the strain gauge module works fine by connecting a RS-485 cable directly between the module and the computer. We have tried several different baud rates with the strain gauge module and those seem to be fine. Based on this, we think the problem is with how we have configured the XBee adapters.

The following is a list of settings we have changed in X-CTU for the XStick

  • XStick is using "Zigbee Coordinator AT’ function set
  • Destination addresses DL/DH have been set to the XBee RS-485 adapter
  • Baud rate is set to 115200
  • DIO7 is set to RS-485 Enable High

Typing ‘atnd’ into the XStick X-CTU terminal results in the following print out.

579E
0013A200
406F8937

0000
02
00
C105
101E

The low and high addresses are correct for the XBee RS-485 adapter.

I don’t know how important this is, but I have disabled the firewall and digi device discovery does not detect anything.

To trouble shoot, we have also connected the XBee RS-485 adapter to the computer using a cable.

Typing a character into the XStick terminal window prints the following on the XBee RS-485 terminal window: ‘…’
Typing a character into the XBee RS-485 window results in no response from the XStick.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be the problem?

Thanks!

Tim
