Discovery and RTS DTR

I have two questions about using the Xbee digimesh. The first is that when I connect the rx an tx lines to an arduino this seems to prevent the discovery of the device connected to the arduino. If I disconnect the din line from the tx line discovery works fine. This seems to be true even when the the arduino never writes to the Xbee.

The second has to do with how the modem control lines work? If I assert the lines on the transmitter module can I see these on the receive xbee. I need so way to pass a reset signal to the arduino.

No, the control lines do not get passed over the air. They only control the data flow on the local UART.

The other issue sounds like you may have a voltage issue or a faulty adapter board. Try talking to the manufacture of the adapter board you are using to see what could be causing that.
