You can add a name with the NI command.
See the details of the NI command in Chapter 10 of the XBee Pro Product Manual.
Since you are using API mode, you would use the following API string to set the local NI value.
7E 00 0B 08 01 4E 49 49 52 4F 4E 4D 41 4E 4B
