I'm receiving a BSOD when inserting a AT&T Sierra HSPA modem into an AnywhereUSB connected to a VM with Server 2008

AT&T/Sierra Wireless 305 HSPA modem (cellular hotspot) Using vmWare 5.0 in large datacenter, have AnywhereUSB/14 applicance, guest OS on VM is Server 2008 R2 (but blue-screens with Server 2003 on VM as well) - have the correct driver (as provided by Sierra tech support) and they (Sierra) say this combination works fine but it sure does not for me.

It is my experience that there are always some challenges to get hardware with drivers working with a virtual machine. Usually the problem is that the virtual machine can’t find or read the drivers.
