Hi,

I’m a bit new at setting up this device and am having a lot of trouble with it.

I am trying to attach the device to my netgear router and/or program the device without any success.

My router does not show any attached devices when I plug the ethernet port in. I got an unassigned MAC address that matched to show up once out of many attempts. I tried to preconfigure an IP reservation in the router but, even the 1 time the MAC address showed up, the device was not given an IP. When I try to run the RealPort (I think its called) software, it cannot find the MAC address.

I am also trying to program the serial ports to be TCP. I have tried connecting my computer to the serial port with a crossover with no luck. I get an error light in RealTerm but not much else. I have also tried connecting the ethernet to my computer (spits out gibberish).

How do I get the PortServer to be attached to my router and what am I doing wrong? Also, how do I program these serial ports? I cannot seem to find, talk to, or otherwise access this device via serial or network connection.

welcome to the world of Digi!

It sounds like you’re having a discovery problem of some kind. You’ll want to figure that out before anything else. Here is a good article talking about that:

make sure you’re giving the digi 30 seconds to boot up before trying discovery. also make sure you’ve tried both straight thru and crossover eithernet cables. It’s best to have the digi attached to a router instead of directly to your PC. that can cause some discovery problems. Another problem is if your PC has mutiple network adapters enabled at a time. The digi discovery problem won’t use both sometimes.
