RF transfer rate (not serial to chip transfer rate) of Xbee3 802.15.4 TH

We moved our devices to XBee3 with IEE 802.15.4.

I would like to know what is transfer rate in air (RF) for broadcast packets.

That is the fixed RF data rate for the 2.4 GHz 802.15.4 and Zigbee protocols. The rate is 250kbps.

Hi Team,

I would like to use Digi XBee3 PRO 802.15.4 ( XB3-24Z8UM ) module for my outdoor control application. Can this module transfer data with 250kbps over 2 miles range? Also how much time required (sleep time) between two packets? And how much is worst case (noisy conditions) data transfer rate?

Regards,

Kiran

You are not going to achieve that distance without perfect RF LOS conditions and a clear channel.

You are not going to stream data at 250kbps. This is the fixed RF data rate that the module runs at. it is not the throughput rate.

Thanks for reply.

To be more specific, my application’s need is to send 50 bytes using XB3-24Z8UM. If the transmitter and receiver are in LoS and we consider medium access and other prerequisites, how much time required to send 50 bytes with and without noisy condition. And if I want to send 50 bytes second time, how much sleep time is required between first and second transmission?

Regards,

Kiran

To see how long it takes the module to send data, I would recommend going to https://www.digi.com/support/knowledge-base/timing-comparison-for-data-transfer-by-product

As for your other question, if you are running at 9600 baud and you are using hardware flow control, you should only need to have the radio awake for about 60 ms of that time.

Thanks for reply,

The document “Timing Comparison For Data Transfer By Product” contains data of S2C
802.15.4 2.4, XBee/XBee Pro 802.15.4 (S1) and other modules. Is it true for Digi XBee3 PRO 802.15.4 ( XB3-24Z8UM )?

That is correct. The document has not yet been updated to include the XBee 3 products or related firmware. But it should give you some what of an idea of what kind of delay we have seen with the older products.

Thanks for reply.
