XB3-C-GM2 (global) vs XB3-C-GM1 (low power)

Hopefully a simple question - would Global Xbee3 version actually consume more power than the Low-Power version if used in the US on the same networks?
The only difference spec-wise as far as I can see is the peak power consumption, but the question is what benefits does it bring? There must be a reason.

I would only expect it to draw more current when using the added features that are in the Global version and not in the Low Power version.
