I have 2 XBee-Pro and I want to buy a third one. I need to check consumation and the XBee is really low consumption but I’m affraid it is going to be to short distance.
Can I buy a XBee-Pro and set it as low consumption and low range (Like if it was a Xbee) and if it is not working switch back to XBee-PRO range/consumption

There is a PL setting to cut the radio power (see the manual). I don’t know what impact this would have on actual sleeping or TX/RX power consumption.
Remember that if your device sleeps 98% of the time, then the actual power to transmit has little impact on battery life. It will be the accumulated sleeping time over the years plus battery self-discharge which defines your battery life.
