XBEE 900HP Digimesh + "linear routing"

I’m planning to install XBEE 900HP modules in a train with 10 cars. (a car is around 60 feet long)
There is one XBEE module per car and we are plannig to use DigiMesh. (mesh network)

I did some range testing and each XBEE module can see up to three car further.

So, in this configuration, all the XBEE devices are in a linear network (instead of star or web/net).

How’s the routing going to work in such as “linear network”.
Lets say I want to speak from #1 to #10 ?
Is the Digimesh going to do 9 hops to go and 9 hops to come back?

Is the DigiMesh smart enough to take shortcut and jump over some XBEE modules ?

What are the DigiMesh criteria for the node selection ? Is it the RSSI or the number of hops ?

No it will use the fewest number of hops possible to get the data from Node 1 to Node 10. IF it can do it in 3, then that it what it will do.

The module does a rout discovery before it transmits the data. It then chooses the lowest path cost possible to send the data.
