Xbee Digimesh SO:5 with SM:8 ?

I have a Digimesh evinronment using Xbee 900 for long range. All network runs off batteries.

My gateway node which has a modem for uploading sensor data from mesh network, has it’s xbee set to SO:5 and SM:7 . Currently the battery draw on that unit is problematic, as it’s pulling too much likely because it never sleeps. Even though it’s my sleep coordinator, can it sleep? Can it be set to SM:8 ? I know that this will cause a delay in joining new nodes to the network, but it seems doable. Thanks.

Yes it can but if this is an X2 or X4, the XBee module is not drawing most of the current. It is the rest of the gateway that is drawing the current.
