AnywhereUSB TS44 Serial Adapter

I’ve been searching high and low, but cannot for the life of me find any information on what types of cable adapters there are to connect DB9 (RS232) devices to the serial ports on a TS44.

I have a server that I want to migrate to VMware, and it has a serial connected device on it. I’m hoping to find an easy way to connect this device to the TS44.

I have this pin-out cabling diagram:
http://ftp1.digi.com/support/cabling/modem_rj45_10pin_db9m.pdf

Would I be able to use 8-pin RJ45 to DB9 adapter along with a straight through ethernet patch cable to accomplish this? Or, do I need to find a 10-pin RJ45 cable and adapter?

Probably. Note that you lose the connectors of pins 1 and 10 when using an 8 pin rj45 connector. If you do not need DCD and RI, an 8 pin rj45 works fine.

The AnywhereUSB TS 44 serial port pinouts are on page 62 of the user guide:

http://ftp1.digi.com/support/documentation/90001086_C.pdf

They match the cabling diagram that you linked, so that will work.

However, from looking at the Web UI of an AnywhereUSB TS 44, it doesn’t appear to support altpin (which is required when using only 8 pins).

So I suggest using the RJ-45 10-pin to DB-9 cable that you linked.

After some searching, I found the manual for the serial device that I’m connecting to the TS44. It only needs the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 pins on a RJ45. I’ve made my adapter and will be giving it a go today to see if it works.

I have successfully been using a FTDI serial adapter with the TS44. Not sure if that’s what you are looking for.
