Connection to Microcontroller UART

Hi,

I am attempting to connect the Wi-ME to the hardware UART of the AVR variant ATMega16L. Right now I have the Wi-ME mounted on the integration kit board, and I am having trouble determining whether or not I need a level translator (e.g. Max3238) between the microcontroller and the board. I cannot spot a level translator on the integration kit board, and so I am speculating that there is one inside the Wi-ME. I cannot find any documentation on this.

In short, do I need a level translator between the micro and the Wi-ME?

Also, is there any practical difference between the logic analyzer pin header and the corresponding pins on the primary serial port?

Thanks,
