Different behavior between 2 Digi WR31 models

Hi All,

I’ve been having some issues with the WR31 after switching the specifc models. I originally got the WR31-M52A-DE1-TB and it is currently working fine. I work and live in Canada and am using a Rogers SIM card. I’ve been using the ‘internet.com’ 3G APN so far, and while slow it seems to work fine. However I realized I needed GNSS support as well and bought the WR31-M82A-DE1-TB, which is where I ran into issues.

After using the same SIM card, mobile settings, and PPP settings I’m seeing the WR31-M82A-DE1-TB periodically detach from the network and then reattach after a minute or so. It does successfully get an IP address while connected though. This is frequent enough that it’s a fairly major issue. I can see the detachments in the event log, but I’m unclear on where the error codes are defined so it’s unclear to me why the detachments are occurring.

I have copies of the debug.txt file, but I’m not really sure what fields to look for that might explain the issue. I’ve pasted in the config section of the problem device below. I can email the debug.txt files of both devices on request, but I’m not seeing an attach option for this forum

event log and debug.txt would be useful in analysis of this issue.

Have you tried setting the “Preferred System” to just 3G instead of auto? (or 4G if applicable)

I tried hard coding to 3G, didn’t seem to help.

Here’s a pastebin link to the debug.txt file:

https://pastebin.com/gYvQEmzs

It looks like the event log should be contained in the debug.txt file

I see the module dropping and resetting in the debug (event log) file.

In the web user interface maybe check this area:
Configuration - Network > Interfaces > Mobile > Advanced

Reset the module after < 0 > unsuccessful connection attempts
Reset the module after <30> unsuccessful status retrieval attempts

If registration is lost for 5 minutes: reset the module if the GPRS registration is lost
reset the module if the GSM registration is lost
do not reset the module

Preferred system: Auto
try 3G or 4G

I have a WR31-M8 that I will setup later to see if it stays linked to carrier.

I’m not on Rogers network though so I may not experience same issues…
Will test on T-Mobile with 4G-LTE SIM

Tested a WR31-M8 for some time did notice it was changing between bands so I disabled band 12.

No disconnect issues on T-Mobile like you are seeing on Rogers
