DIGI ANYWHERE G2 USB 14, Will NOT Connect To My Dataman Programmer ? Cypress Ez-USB Chipset

Hello

I have a DIGI ANYWHERE USB 14 that is working fine with every usb device I have all but one??

My Dataman Programmer DATAMAN PRO 40 programmer, if I plug the programmer in local USB everything works fine?

but remotely the software finds the programmer but locks up saying cannot access programmer, please see images

I have no idea why every other device works but this one does not ??

I have had a look in the programmer and the USB chipset is a Cypress EZ-USB IC

not sure why this IC is causing problems when It works in a local PC USB port and other USB devices work fine in the DIGI ANYWHERE G2 USB 14

I have updated all firmware and drivers from DIGI and also ticked microsoft USB IDs

any help will be very much appreciated

Thank you

I have updated DIGI firmware

speaking with Dataman the error is the programmer is not reading back its firmware

So can only assume the DIGI USB2 does not replicate a local PC USB port as clearly this dataman programmer USB device only works locally

Such a shame Digi anywhere G2 does not replicate local USB ports fully

Hello,

FYI, the AWUSB/14 is obsolete / end of life and the replacement is the AWUSB 24 Plus (essentially the 3rd generation of the AWUSB). There are also 2 and 8 port variants of the AWUSB Plus family. The AWUSB Plus may work better for this project.

Thank you for the info, I was aware this unit is now obsolete.

But I still don’t understand why every usb 2 device I have works fine apart from the Dataman programmer ??

The AWUSB14 clearly does not faithfully replicate the USB2 local port on a PC ?? as I thought it would.

Even though the AWUSB 14 is old! So is the programmer I’m trying to use and the AWUSB G2 14 … SHOULD WORK and emulate USB2 fully, sadly this is not the case

The programmer uses USB2 interface, so really there should be no reason for it not to work?

I have other makes of programmer that are USB2 interface, that work just fine, dongles that work just fine, even memory keys that transfer data just fine? all working fine with the AWUSB G2 14 ??

The programmer in question that is not working with the AWUSB 14 is 15+ years old and the drivers / software even work with windows XP to current windows 11.

I’m not sure or confidant that purchasing a later AWUSB current model would not cause me the same issues with this programmer? This still may cause me the same issues ??

Also I don’t really require USB3, thus why I purchased this unit as most devices I want to use are electronic designer development USB2 tools .

It’s a big price gamble to invest in a new unit only to face the same issues.

This should have worked fine as every other USB2 device works OK, so clearly there are issues with true 1:1 emulating of external USB ports with the Anywhere USB G2 14 ??

And this maybe the case with the later hardware too, that’s my concern.

Sadly I guess I will have to accept this unit will not do what I purchased it for, though I have had success with other USB2 devices.

A little deflated, but thanks for you reply

Hi @JohnnySH, since this isn’t working, is obsolete (i.e. we’re no longer developing the software/hardware), and you have nothing to lose, I’d say try experimenting with changes to some of the Preferences within the driver. Just in case its a timing thing, try lengthening the Detection Timeout (don’t forget to Save the change), and in case the missing ingredient is the Microsoft Device ID, try enabling that and re-test: https://docs.digi.com/resources/documentation/digidocs/90001085/default.htm#reference/r_menu__option_file_preferences.htm

Hi thanks for the tip

have tried your suggestions and still no joy

I think this programmer has a lot going on compared to other devices

for some reason it is AWUSB14 is falling over with emulating USB2 ports ???

when i click on the dataman usb device I get 2 pages of items on the right as can be seen in the two images posted

it looks like there is many items for this programmer? but works absolutely fine if plugged in the PC

Interesting issue seems like a driver or chipset compatibility quirk. Getting this fixed would feel like a lucky 3 patti win after all the troubleshooting!
