Have downloaded both the J and M version of the drivers for this Edgeport/4 and neither are working. On the J version, the serial ports will not install but XP will see the USB device. Removed the drivers, rebooted, and install version M of those drivers and things got worse. Tried to update the drivers on the device and keep getting an error about ionport and now I can’t remove the device from device manager on this system. Tested on a Windows 11 and it works just fine. Would this just be an issue with the OS?

- Driver Incompatibility
- Windows XP is an outdated OS, and newer drivers (J & M versions) may not fully support it.
-Try using an “older version of the Edgeport/4 driver”, specifically designed for Windows XP.
- Corrupt or Conflicting Drivers
-Since you installed multiple driver versions, there may be registry conflicts
Solution:- Disconnect the Edgeport/4 device.
- Boot into “Safe Mode” and remove all Edgeport-related drivers from “Device Manager”.
-Restart and reinstall a “compatible XP driver” before reconnecting the device.
- Incorrect Driver Installation Order
- Some USB devices require the “driver to be installed before plugging in the device”.
-Try “installing the driver first”, rebooting, and then connecting the device.
- “Registry Issues Preventing Device Removal”
-If XP won’t let you remove the device, try using “Device Manager in Safe Mode” or “third-party tools like Device Cleanup Tool” to remove ghost devices.
5.*Windows XP Lacks Proper USB Driver Support
-The USB stack in XP may not fully support modern USB-to-serial adapters.
- Try updating “XP to SP3” if you haven’t already.
newer Edgeport hardware (all new part numbers EP-USB-) do have newer USB chips inside, which require the newest driver. The newest driver was not signed or certified nor tested on obsolete Windows XP. If you do have an older 301- part number hardware, the older driver (see under legacy) should still work under Windows XP (“as-is”).
