Exactly what happens when reset my XBee with short wiring?

I don’t have an XBee reset button on my Arduino, so I reset the XBee modem by shortwiring pin 5 and 10. But exactly what effect does that have? I thougt it reset all registers to some default factory value, but now I have come to believe that it simply restarts. And if so, then exactly what does it mean to restart?

You are correct - it restarts the XBee. Some network things are reset, and some are saved/restored from the last session.

You must use the ‘RE’ command to restore factory defaults.
