What is the error/behavior seen when trying to connect?
What does the “who” command show when attempting to connect?
What does “display ports” show when trying to connect?
Is grounding wired on the cable (SGND and Chassis)?

the issue turned out to be that the device i was connecting the Digi unit to defaulted on the baud rate when power was disconnected.
