We have the same problem, but with Xbee 804.14.5 OEM modules and firmware (1084 or 10E6).

I have Xbee 804.15.4 HW:1742 and 1743
And firmware 1084 and 10E6
We noticed that with firmware 1084, configuring again the Coordinator would bring it back to communicate, but with firmware 10E6, that is not enough, and a full power down is required.
