RCM3700 Serial PortE recieve disabled

I have been using Serial port E on a RCM3700 module. No problems until all of a sudden I found it was no longer receiving.

the SECR register is set to 0x20, indicating that the UART reciever is disabled, but there appears to be no way to reenable it, it resists all attempts!

I suspect there is another setting somewhere that is disabling the pin, forcing the disable of the recieve, but I can’t find anything. Paralell PortG DDR is set correctly to 0x40.

Any ideas anybody?

I think the problem may be that I do not have full access to configure the ports in user mode. I think it is possible to do this with a software interupt…any tips on how to do this?
