Set an outside XBee as a router

I have an XBee ZB SMT configured as a coordinator to a ZigBee lock. The XBee runs a python program to lock and unlock the lock remotely. Is there anyway that I can have a third device (XBee ZB SMT) come in and take over being the coordinator of the lock or put itself between the coordinator and end device to send commands to the lock.

Sure you can add a router to extend the range. To make the end device associate to the router, power on the coordinator and router first. Once the router is associated to the coordinator, set the NJ parameter on the Coordinator to 0. Then power on the end device. The end device will then associate to the router and communicate via that router to any other node within the network.
