The realport driver I am using is 4.7.410.0 on Windows7 x64.

Symptoms:
The mode command returns COM10 which is the virtual port created by realport,
I open putty and direct it to connect to COM10 and it does not succeed, it just sits there. Observing the driver in device manager-properties-DigiTransportRealport-COM10, port status reports the following:
Local COM: Opened by pytty.exe
Device Port: Aquiring…(XXth try)

Where XX is a number that counts upward, about once every 5 seconds. It never connects.
I have tried all the available settings in Port Network Profile but results are the same.

I have a Digi transport WR44 which works perfectly using realport, details are:

I have duplicated the settings from the WR44 to the WR21 and when I do that I get the following:

  1. When I entry ‘mode’ at the console, the Port status reports Local COM: “Opened by mode.com…”; Device Port: “Aquiring” and then mode returns with no COM10 in the console,
  2. Trying to connect with putty of course throws an error dialog as there is no COM10 which is what the error shows.

Is there anyway to get the Realport working with the current FW version of the WR21?
is there a FW version for the WR21 that works with the realport driver?

Cheers,
john

I believe that the information you are looking for is found on page 282 of the product manual located at http://ftp1.digi.com/support/documentation/90001019.pdf

I have that manual, I could recite that section in my sleep. The answer is not there.

Cheers,
John

During the RealPort installation, do you recall how many ports you installed (the “No. Ports” setting)? It may default to a wrong number such as 10. You should typically only input the actual number of ports you want to install. For a WR21, it would be just one (1). Might not be a bad idea to Uninstall RealPort then re-install it and be sure to just select 1 for the number of ports, for starters. To uninstall RealPort, right-click the device in the Multi-port serial adapters category of Device Manager and select Uninstall.

The next things to check on the WR21 itself, in the web interface, are:

  1. Ensure that “Enable this serial interface” is checked, in Configuration - Network > Interfaces > Serial > Serial Port 0. If changing this, click “Apply & Save Changes to Profile”, then click Apply underneath, afterwards. This is the default setting but can’t hurt to check.

  2. In Configuration > Network > Interfaces > Serial > RealPort, ensure that “Enable RealPort” is checked. If changing this, click Apply afterwards. It sounds like you’ve already checked this.

Perform a “Save All”, then Reboot the TransPort. I believe this Reboot is required, so it’s important (if changing any of the above).

As I understand it, the above info goes over all the required steps to get RealPort working with a TransPort WR21.

I just tested this with a WR21 running the soon-to-be-released firmware 5.2.17.10 (as well as 5.2.15.6), and the same current release RealPort driver that you’re running, on a Windows 7 machine, and it seems to be working just fine.

Exactly what do you have attached to the WR21’s serial port, that you’re trying to interface with? Is it a DTE device, or DCE? And what kind of serial cabling is in between (straight-through or null modem)?

I think a good simple test (what I did) is to use a straight-through serial cable and attach the other end to a computer’s native serial port, otherwise a USB-to-serial converter. Then if you open PuTTY.exe on that computer (to the native serial port or adapter via the right COM port), and you open PuTTY.exe on the computer with RealPort (via the right COM port), you should be able to type in one window and see that in the other window, if that makes sense.
