The only documentation I found as a Get Started guide for range test refers to Zigbee, not 802.15.4. What are the proper settings for a Xbee to perform a range test? My radio works ok, but the range test keeps failing.

This document you are pointing to states : " In this case, in order to successfully run a range test you will need to set the ZigBee Cluster ID (CI) value to 12 which can be found in the ZigBee Addressing section. ", which refers to Zigbee, not 802.15.4.
Any idea how to do this for 802.15.4 ?
Ok, the answer lies on connecting Din with Dout on the remote node.
Which are Pin 2 and 3 .

no need to do any other setting, just making sure the nodes can talk to each other by setting the addresses correctly.
