AnywhereUSB/2 error 38, no connectivity to USB device until restart server

Hello,

We are using USB-Anywhere with a Motorola scanner at several sites.
At one site that we recently integrated, we see that the device is no longer connected and we cannot reconnect until full server reboot (error Code 38).
The exact same issue is reported on several places in the internet, including here:
http://www.digi.com/support/forum/46960/windows-8-1-code-38
But also on a lot of other locations, always without solution being mentioned.

We are running:

  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • AnywhereUSB 3.82.207
  • Driver Digi International 3.80.200.0
  • Guest OS is running in VMware ESXi 6.0 with VMware Tools installed
  • Model AnywhereUSB/2
  • Firmware 1.83.17.30
  • Post 1.09.9.32

RealportUSB Host Controller has a exclamation mark saying:
" Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the driver is still in memory. (Code 38) The driver could not be loaded because a previous verison of the driver is still in memory"

The AnyWhereUSB remote hub configuration utility reports that it is connected to the USB Hub and shows the uptime. No other hubs or present and no other computers. The only solution is to reboot the full server which is totally unacceptable. Rebooting the USB anywhere does not help, disconnecting and reconnecting using the remote hub does not work.

Please assist us in this issue

I recommend raising this issue with Digi Tech. Support:

Submit an on-line request at: https://mydigi.secure.force.com/customers/

Phone: 1-952-912-3456.

Tried that initially, but this needs a support contract it seems, cannot fill out the request without an active support contract number. Even not if it doesn’t work out of the box.

You should be able to input “Bug Report” somewhere in the on-line request which will negate the need for a support agreement number.

I found an article about the same issue, telling me the install driver 3.90 to fix it.

http://knowledge.digi.com/articles/Knowledge_Base_Article/AnywhereUSB-Code-38-error

But that driver is not available for download on the website. Only 3.82 is to be found (which is my current driver). Is this a mistake? Please help.

Customer support has send me the 3.90 pre-release driver. Would be available for download on the website later.
