AnywhereUSB/5 Resets with 30 Devices Attached

We have the AnywhereUSB/5 with quite a few USB-Serial adaptors connected. Everything is good with 29 devices attached, but as soon as the 30th USB-Serial adaptor is connected, the AnywhereUSB/5 bridge resets.

The USB-Serial adaptor uses the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port driver 3.2.0.0

We can acutally get 30 devices attached w/o resets if we replace some of the USB-Serial adaptors with ones that use a different driver (PL2303 Prolific driver 1.32.0.0) however, we’re unable to receive data using those adaptors.

Here are some of the specifics along with the event log from the bridge:

Name: Digi Enet USB Bridge
S/N: SW934F9A99
Boot Code: v1.5.0002
Firmware: v2.30.0005
Hardware: 0x6

Configuration Utility: AwUsbCfg version 2.60.5.0
Anywhere USB Host Controller Driver Version: 2.70.14.0

The PC is running Vista Home Premium SP2.

Does the AnywhereUSB/5 continually reset, or does it reset only once?

No, I’ve only used the driver that came with the device since it appears to be the latest one.

The support page for this device indicates that the latest driver is v2.70 (Released 5/6/2009). The driver listed on my Windows Device Manager for the AnywhereUSB Host Controller is version 2.70.14.0 with a date of 5/9/2009. Based on this data, I’m assuming that I’m running the latest driver.

Please let me know if there is a different driver I should try.

Continually. Following a reset, Windows starts “finding” the devices again and I see them being added again as COM ports in Device Manager. Then, the AnywhereUSB resets and the process repeats.

My suspicion is that the reset occurs when the 30th device is registered, but I can’t observe the event closely enough to confirm this guess.

Have you tried other AnywhereUSB driver versions yet?

You won’t be able to try other driver versions because that’s the only one that supports Vista. Sorry, I just realized that.
