I have a AnywhereUSB/5 (not generation 2) and a MiFare Proximity Smartcard reader. The reader and associated driver causes a string of characters to be sent as keyboard input when a suitable smartcard is offered up to the reader.
The AnywhereUSB connects to the frshly installed 32 bit XP system (Driver 3.10; Firmware 2.30) ok, but fails to enumerate the reader (everything is filled with zeros)
Is this to be expected?

Hello Monathan,
Does the reader appear in Windows Device Manager? If so, does it have a yellow warning icon, or does it look “good”? If it does have a yellow warning icon, go to its Properties and tell me the error message and error code.
Hi Jeremym
Does the reader appear in Windows Device Manager?
Yes, as [Yellow Circle with a ! in it][Port1]DeviceEnumerationFailed : Unknown Device
If so, does it have a yellow warning icon, or does it look ‘good’?
No, it doesn’t look good
If it does have a yellow warning icon, go to its Properties and tell me the error message and error code.
I’ve created an RTF file - about 6M with screen shots and copies of useful looking info - and uploaded it to
http://tilehurstswimmingclub.org.uk/cms/images/stories/files/ProxyReader.zip
I found that once unzipped you HAVE to start wordpad and File>open - word seems to make a mess of it.
What is the error message and error code? To find this out, double-click the device in Device Manager, to access its Properties.
It should say something like Code 1 or Code 10 or maybe another code, and there should be some text that gives information about the error.
Collect that information for me then click File / Preferences in the AnywhereUSB Configuration Utility, check “Use Microsoft Device IDs”, click Update, then click Disconnect, then click Connect after 1 minute, then look in Device Manager again and let me know if that makes a difference or not.
Hi
It says it’s an unknown device and has no driver, which is reasonable
seeing as the device hasn’t enumerated.
If I plug it directly into Windows it says it’s an HID device
and the magic string is USBVID_036B&PID_6201\0123456789AF
but the one plugged through the AnywhereUSB saying AWUSB\VIS_0000&PID0000\0000&0A000066&1, which seems a bit of a killer
Have you tried updating the driver?
Have you tried the “Use Microsoft Device IDs” feature? It changes the bus driver from “AWUSB” to “USB”.
Yes, You’re right - but as far as I can tell all the Vendor ID and CLass IDs are still zero even with USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\0000 …
Oh, I see. I had missed that.
Hmm, why don’t you try the beta AnywhereUSB v3.2.3 driver out and let me know if that helps or not.
ftp://austin:!15st3n!@ftp1.digi.com/temp/40002670_v3.2.3.zip
First uninstall the existing driver via “View / Driver Information / Uninstall”, reboot the host PC when prompted, then run setup.exe from the .zip file above.
That sir, is magic.
Works a treat
(well, there is a green LED that I think ought to come on, but it reads the cards ok so what do I care about the LED??)
Thank you very much for your attention in this matter…
Monathan
Is there any way we can get a copy of the beta driver too? The link pasted in above doesn’t work anymore.
We’re experiencing the same issue with a USB security dongle.
Thanks!
