Digi One SP to read from Markem Printer and store in Compact Logix

I am attempting to use a Digi One SP to read a number value that is being printed by a Markem printer. I’m need to store and manipulate this data in a Compact Logix that is on our network. The printer requires a read to retrieve data.

I’m at a loss of where to start.
I have already configured the ethernet address on the digi one, but how do I use ASCII or MSG functions to force a Read of the data.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Hmm, can the CompactLogix handle raw TCP sockets? I’ll ask a Rockwell engineer, but I am not sure that you can do this.

Worstcase, you may need 2 units of DOSP linked as ‘serial bridge’ and use the CLgx MSG support for the PLC’s serial port.

Here is the answer I received from Rockwell:

"The latest generation of CompactLogix controllers being released this year all include embedded Ethernet ports with raw socket capability. I believe the message block implementation for raw sockets is consistent with the 1756-EWEB module, which has supported this capability for years.
