END DEVICES, STANDARD NODE and COORDINATOR

Hello!
how many end devices support a coordinator?

what’s the difference between STANDARD NODE and COORDINATOR?

best regards

Hi,

First of all, I assume you are using this XBee 868 module?
http://www.digi.com/products/wireless-wired-embedded-solutions/zigbee-rf-modules/point-multipoint-rfmodules/xbee-pro-868#overview

I’ve been breaking my head last night about the exact same question.
If I understand correctly, this module is not capable of running in “mesh”, but only “point-to-point” or “point-to-multipoint”. The “CE - Coordinator Enable” option seems to be something totally different than “coordinator” used in “mesh modules”.
After reading the manual (http://ftp1.digi.com/support/documentation/90001020_B.pdf) at page 26, I believe that:

  • a “Standard Node” is a module that is always listening to new messages and receives them as they come, it also sends the messages immediately when received from the serial line;
  • an “End Device” is a module that polls for new messages every now and then (in order to save battery power?);
  • a “Coordinator” is a module that buffers the messages it receives through the serial line and transmits it when requested via a poll.

If I’m incorrect, please let me know!

Regards.
