Etherlite 160 Cables

Hi, I am new using this terminal server. I am going to take over this device by I am having problems making the 16 ports to communicate. The device itself seems to be responding well but the ports seem to be dead. I am wondering if the cables I am making are just wrong. I am using the rj45 typical settings: 1 OW, 2 O, 3 GreenW, 4 Blue, 5 BlueW, 6 Green, 7 BrownW and 8 Brown. Can any one be so kind and share the other end settings? I would truely appreciate this!

You did not say what you need on the other end, so I’ll provide you a link to the EtherLite hardware guide:

On the second page are charts for rs232 pinouts for both db9 and db25 connectors. This gives you the info you need.
However, you may be interested in the adapters for the EtherLite which are pre-pinned so that you can use standard cat 5 cabling to make whatever length cable you need and just plug in the type of adapter you need. These EtherLite adapters are pinned differently than the other Digi adapters, so be sure to use only the correct ones if you try these. You can view the details here:

On the other end, I am trying to connect to the actual terminal server. This Etherlite 160 has 16 ports and I am using the Digi RealPort. At this time, I don’t know if the ports are bad or if my cable pin outs are wrong. If anyone can help me by posting the pin outs on both ends will be greatly appreaciated! Thanks.

I forgot to mentioned that both ends are rj45.

3 DCD DTR 2
4 RxD TxD 3
5 TxD RxD 6
7 DTR DSR 7
6 SG SG 5
1 RTS CTS 8
8 CTS RTS 1

NOTE: leave pin 2 on DIGI end (plug) empty and leave pin 4 on Cisco end (plug) empty. This is working for me. I made my own cables following the diagram above. Good luck! Let me know if I can assist anyone with this.

Keep the number of variables to an absolute minimum when testing the EtherLite ports. Take an rj45 with a short piece of ethenet cable and wire the center 2 pins together (Rx and Tx) to make a simple loopback.
Then test each port individually using Hyperterminal. Please see this link for details:

After verifying that all ports are good, then you can be fairly confident that if you have any issue when you connect the actual equipment to the port, the issue is likely your cable or the configuration of the port parameters.
