i’ve just aquired a number of mt5600zdx multitech units in racks to use with a dial up system running on Win2000. I was / am using USR Robotics V everything and all was well bu the ZDX’s are not being recognised reliably if at all. I’m using the Alt PIN option with the 25 way D to RJ45 cables which work fine for the USR’s. I have also tried flashing the latest FW to the modems as I was unsure if there may have been an odd setup being retained from the previuos use of these. Any suggestions may save me from insanity !
As far as the serial port is concerned, it doesn’t care what type of modem is connected to it. The Multitech ZDX should work equally as well as the USR did. If it doesn’t, what else is different?
Are the signal LEDs displayed on the front panel of the modems the same? If not, this might indicate one modem or the other had a signal forced by DIP switch or AT command. Are you using a Multitech-specific init string? Modem manufacturers use different AT command sets, so this might be an issue as well. Either way, it sounds more like a modem rather than a serial port issue.
