PortConnect LTS and LTS MEI Consoles

I have a Connectport LTS 16 MEI and a ConnectPort LTS 32 and I have a question of the functionality.

I can’t seem to actually connect to the console of anything that is plugged in. I can ssh to the device and bring up the cli menu but when I type connect 1 it just hangs. Also when I telnet to a telnet port or ssh to a ssh port, it just hangs.

Am I supposed to be able to use the telnet command on a remote system and connect to a console of an attached device? I’m connecting my cisco equipment consoles with ethernet cables and cisco straight through cables.

I configured the serial port profile to be a console management port, is that the correct one?

thanks,

Hello,
did you check the cabling pinout for console access? see cable guide on support page.
maybe you update it to the latest firmware version Digi ConnectPort LTS 8/16/32 Terminal Server Support Resources then perform a factory reset and retry? If this does not help create a support case with Digi Technical Support providing the serial number: Submit a Support Case

I tried a cisco cable, regular ethernet and cross over cables.

ports 1 and 3 are regular ethernet, 2 and 4 are crossover

Port# RTS CTS DSR DCD DTR
1 off off on off off
2 off off off off off
3 off off on off off
4 off off off off off

They are all set to the console management profile

I can see I’m sending, but not receiving:

#> info serial port=4

Serial port 4 statistics :

rbytes : 0 tbytes : 3
overrun errors : 0 frame errors : 0
parity errors : 0 breaks : 0

I ordered a cable from amazon: Digi International 76000631 6-Feet RJ-45 to RJ-45 Network Cable

And it worked for my cisco and palo consoles, the pin out is:

 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
brown orange	green green	blue blue orange	brown
stripe stripe	stripe solid	solid stripe solid solid

orange brown	blue blue green green brown	orange
solid stripe	solid stripe	stripe solid solid	stripe
 7 1 5 6 3 4 8 2

or

1 → 7
2 → 1
3 → 5
4 → 6
5 → 3
6 → 4
7 → 8
8 → 2

the green stripe wire was actually missing from the cable I bought but I kept it in when I made my own.
