Pro-900HP constantly needs a reset to do anything in X-CTU

I am having a problem with one of my XBee pros.
One XBee works perfect, the other needs to be reset at every stage of reading or writing FW or settings.

I have

  • written various FW versions,
  • tried various breakout boards (Sparkfun explorer etc)
  • different FTDI boards
  • checked supply voltages
  • different USB ports/cables/drivers
  • different versions of X-CTU

Currently running Pro 900HP 200k (XBP9B-DM) on firmware 806A.

X-CTU does not identify the one unit until i use reset. I have used the recovery option, and it has written new FW to the XBee, but it never gets rid of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a baud rate mismatch between the module and your boards or a voltage issue on the UART pins. Try reloading the firmware using a board that has the necessary lines on it.
