We are currently using a cheap Silex USB over the Network thingy and we wanted to upgrade to something more reliable, I just started looking into this product line (AnywhereUSB) and I was loving it, until now.
I was searching the forum/documentation for USB auto-disconnect options or to simply request/force-disconnect a USB device from other Clients and I found out that the product doesn’t support this feature. This is a deal breaker for our company, we constantly need to move devices around and this feature is available out of the box with basically every other USB over the Network solutions we used in the past (kindly request other user to release, set timed auto-release if not answered, immediate disconnect if other PC in standby/off).
Does anyone know if they are planning to introduce this feature?
there is no communication tool inside the Digi product to ask users to release (disconnect) their devices. You would have to communicate through your company tools.
In order to disconnect clients, you can use the “block” feature, which will disconnect the client for a defined time (10 min by default) and allows others to connect, even if the disconnected client has “auto (re-)connect” enabled, see:
For this feature an admin needs to login on the web page of the hub to “block” a specific clientID for some time and USB port group. You may also be able to perform this through the command line interface (CLI) to the hub.
