Can I use PPP on Digi X-Bee Wifi module?

I have an X-Bee Wifi module connected via the UART interface to a Beaglebone Black running either QNX or Linux. I want to use the device as an IP device (should show up as an interface using ifconfig with an IP address). I haven’t found any good instructions on how to do that.

As a side note, I have a Nimbelink cellular shield that does use PPP to establish a connection to Verizon. The shield has an X-Bee socket connected to UART 3 of the BBB. I figure it should be fairly straight forward to establish a connection to a Wifi AP as a STA.

I need exactly the same. I wonder if there’s a special firmware for the X-Bee WiFi module to support PPP.
